Previously, I had to open the Pigment web app on my phone and manually crop each photo to fit the panel's shape before sending it to the frame (as described in [A family e-ink photo frame in a day Pigment](https://michael.zazon.us/notes/a-family-e-ink-photo-frame-in-a-day-pigment)). Now, I can simply use Share in Photos and select Send to Pigment. The photo is next up on the frame, already cropped. I tried it with my first 3 shares and they all made it through, and I got a notification on my phone saying "3 sent to Pigment".

iOS doesn't give home-screen web apps a share target, so it was either a native app or an [Apple Shortcut](https://support.apple.com/guide/shortcuts/welcome/ios). The Shortcut won. It stays trivial because Pigment (the server) picks the album and the crop. An iPhone portrait is already the panel's 3:4, so Pigment uploads it whole. Any other shape gets the largest 3:4 crop around what the photo is about, automatically done by [sharp's attention crop](https://sharp.pixelplumbing.com/api-resize). Gotcha: the already-open Pigment app didn't show new shares until I made it refresh when brought back to the front.

The frame grabs the photo next time it wakes up and checks in with [Byonk](https://github.com/oetiker/byonk). So I can get the photo to the frame without having to go through an intermediate step that requires the Pigment app to be open.

My wife already edits photos with her Lightroom presets and fashion 3 looked good on the frame, so her edits were the target. Pigment recreates her three Lightroom presets at render time from the slider values stored in each preset, leaving the originals alone. I didn't want to use a lookup image for each preset because she would have had to export them all by hand.

Measuring showed her edits were basically "fashion 3" plus about half a stop of exposure, so that's what I set as the default. I tested it on one of her real before/after photos and the color difference in [Oklab](https://bottosson.github.io/posts/oklab/) went from 0.088 (untouched) to 0.031 (with fashion 3 + half a stop). Photos that she already edited in Lightroom don't get the look (their metadata says so), but her reds still come out richer than Pigment's.

Tune the looks on real photos and check them on the frame, then get the smaller frames going. A signed Shortcut would make it a one-tap install for the family.
